Egypt confirms 911 new coronavirus cases, 42 deaths on Wednesday
Egypt is currently witnessing the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, Minister of Health Hala Zayed said.
Egypt reported 911 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday bringing the total infection tally to 127,972 since the outbreak began in February.
The health ministry also reported 42 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 7,209.
The statement said that 398 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 107,961.
Egypt is currently witnessing the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, Minister of Health Hala Zayed said on Wednesday in a press conference.
Zayed said that there are currently 363 hospitals ready to receive patients and 200 extra ventilators available to face the increase in cases.
The minister requested that citizens head to the nearest hospitals in the event that they are infected and not to specific hospitals in order not to cause over crowdedness in those hospitals.
Also, at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said New Year’s Eve celebrations will be banned in a bid to contain the spread of the pandemic.
In education, Ministry of Education stated on Sunday that school students will be allowed not to attend classes for the rest of the first semester, but they will have to take the exams in person at school.
