Egypt’s Sisi announces allocation of $500 million for reconstruction in war-wrecked Gaza

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced on Tuesday the allocation of $500 million as part of an Egyptian initiative for the reconstruction of the battle-scarred Gaza Strip.

As per Sisi’s directives issued during the trilateral summit with France and Jordan in Paris, specialised Egyptian companies will be involved in the reconstruction process, the presidency said in a statement.

They will face titanic task of rebuilding Palestinian city of Gaza from the ruins of the ongoing Israeli airstrikes, which killed so far more than 200 Palestinians, including many children and women in the last eight days. The airstrikes destroyed tens of buildings, leaving hundreds of Palestinians homeless.

On Sunday, Egyptian authorities opened the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip and received a number of injured Palestinians due to the ongoing Israeli aggression.

Later on Monday Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed announced dispatching 65 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies worth 14 million Egyptian pounds ($892,710) to aid Gaza.

Egypt has also allocated 11 hospitals nationwide to receive injured Palestinians.
