Russia considers canceling its grain export quota

Russia is considering cancelling its grain export quota that usually sets in the second half of the marketing season, according to statements by the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko.

Abramchenko said that she is working to activate this decision, explaining that the export quota is calculated on the basis of the grain balance.

The quota is distributed according to the historical principle, as it had recorded in the last agricultural year 11 million tons, including 8 million tons of wheat.

Russia’s ministry of agriculture has forecasted that the grain harvest for 2022 will reach about 150 million tons, including 100 million tons of wheat.

According to the expected harvest and the needs of the Russian domestic market, it is necessary to export 50-60 million tons of grain abroad, First Deputy Agriculture Minister Oksana Lot said in September.
