Sharma says countries must deliver on their climate change promises – COP27
British COP26 President Alok Sharma expressed his appreciation on Sunday for the great efforts made by Egypt to host UN climate conference COP27, assuring on the countries importance to deliver on the promises they have made.
In his speech during the opening procedural session of COP27 held in Sharm El Sheikh from 6-18 November, he indicated that the United Kingdom made all its efforts during the presidency of COP26.
Sharma further stated the countries met last November under difficult political conditions and amid Corona pandemic that is still ongoing, as the leaders calls for the cooperation environment field, which is necessary despite profound differences.
“We reiterated the urgency of action and support for loss and damage, and established serious work on funding arrangements,” said Sharma, adding “we hope this will pave the way for a formal agenda item and tangible progress in Egypt.”
Moreover, every party has agreed to revisit and strengthen their 2030 emissions reduction targets to align with Paris Agreement.
