Michael Jackson’s Moonwalk hat up for auction

The hat won by Michael Jackson when he first performed his Moonwalk dance will be up for auction on September 26 in Paris at Artpèges and Lemon Auction, according to a statement published on Wednesday.

Jackson, named the King of Pop, threw the hat to the side of the stage in 1983 right before performing the backward slide step that would later go down in history as he sings his song, Billie Jean.

The hat, which is estimated to be between $66,000 and $109,000, is expected to be the main attraction of a sale of rock objects at Hôtel Drouot.

The sale will also feature 200 lots, including concert posters and tickets, Madonna’s gold disc, Martin Gore’s Depeche Mode custom, Rolling Stones vinyl, and a guitar by bluesman T-Bone Walker, produced in 1949 and estimated between $110,000 and $165,000.

The sale organisers were behind the auction of Noel Gallagher’s smashed guitar on the night of his band, Oasis’s split, which was sold for $425,000.
