Egypt signs €38m deal to build 4 solid waste recycling plants

Egypt’s Ministry of Local Development signed €38.8 million contract with the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI) to establish four solid waste recycling plants within the Kitchener Drain Depollution Project, the cabinet stated on Monday.

Three factories will be built in Kafr El Sheikh governorate with a combined daily production capacity of 1800 tonnes of solid waste. The fourth plant will be in Dakahleya governorate, with a daily production capacity of 600 tonnes of solid waste.

The Arab British Co. For Dynamics Industries (ADB) has secured the international tender from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to establish the four plants, the statement added.

The project will be completed in 22 months, starting in March 2024 and finishing on December 31, 2025.

The deal is part of Kitchener Drain Depollution Project- Solid Waste to enhance water quality. It is funded by a €79 million loan from the EBRD and an eight million grant from the European Union (EU).
