Egypt’s public sector workforce drops to 663K in ’23
The number of Egyptian employees in the public sector decreased by 1.1 per cent in 2023 to 663,300 workers down from 671,000 workers in the previous year, the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported.
The report showed a 1.3 per cent decrease in the number of male workers from 588,000 in 2022 to 580,200 in 2023. Number of female workers also saw a slight drop from 83,300 in 2022 to 83,200 in 2023, a 0.2 per cent decrease.
The housing and construction sector employed the most workers at 214,900, accounting for 32.4 per cent of the total workforce, followed by the industry, petroleum, and mineral wealth at 20.7 per cent, and the electricity sector at 17.6 per cent.
Cairo governorate has the highest number of public sector workers at 233,627, representing 35.2 per cent of the total workforce, followed by Alexandria with 69,297, the report added.
