China’s pickup truck sales rise 4.4% in April
China’s pickup truck market defied the trend towards passenger cars, registering a 4.4 per cent year-on-year increase in sales for April, Xinhua reported citing industry data from the China Passenger Car Association on Sunday.
Despite the rise, sales figures remain modest with 44,000 pickup trucks sold last month. Notably, exports accounted for a significant portion of the market, at 42 per cent of total sales.
This suggests strong international demand for Chinese-made pickup trucks, with the association reporting continued growth in exports since 2022.
Pickup truck sales in China reached 173,000 units for the first four months of 2024, reflecting a 5.1 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
