Egypt’s ECA unveils multi-pronged strategy
The Egyptian Competitive Authority (ECA) announced on Sunday a significant strategy aimed at promoting a level playing field for businesses in the country.
The competitive neutrality strategy outlines a four-pronged approach to ensure fair competition and a healthy business environment.
A Supreme Committee, led by the Prime Minister’s Office, will be established to oversee competition policy and competitive neutrality. This committee will provide high-level guidance and ensure coordinated efforts across various government bodies.
The strategy emphasises seeking the ECA’s expertise on draft laws, policies, and decisions that could impact competition. This ensures that competition considerations are factored into the legislative process, fostering a fair and transparent environment.
The initiative recognises the importance of a culture shift within the government. Workshops and training programmes will be conducted for employees across all state administrative agencies, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to uphold competitive neutrality principles.
The strategy acknowledges the importance of continuously evaluating its effectiveness. An ex-post assessment will be carried out to gauge the impact of these initiatives on sustaining a competitive market and promoting a favourable business environment. This strategy demonstrates the country’s commitment to fostering economic growth and creating a more attractive environment for investment.
