Russia to develop intl. railway corridors – Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Sunday ambitious plans to develop international transport corridors, focusing on the creation of a seamless railway network stretching from the Baltic and Barents Seas to the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.

In a video address marking Russia’s Railway Workers’ Day, which is celebrated on the first Sunday of August, Putin highlighted several key projects.

These include the construction of high-speed railways connected to the Central Transport Hub in Moscow, the establishment of international logistics corridors, and the enhancement of the transport route from Azov to the Black Sea.

Putin emphasised the need to accelerate the expansion of Russia’s railway infrastructure through advanced technological upgrades and innovations. “Our approach must not only meet current needs but also prepare for future demands, ensuring progress for decades to come,” he stated.

He also underscored the importance of modernising Russia’s Eastern railway system, particularly the Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian Railways, as well as the 700-kilometre Northern Latitudinal Railway in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, which connects to Arctic ports.

Putin expressed confidence in the expertise and commitment of railway workers to achieve these grand tasks, noting their vital role in advancing the nation’s interests.
