China launches anti-subsidy probe on EU dairy imports

China has initiated an anti-subsidy investigation into dairy imports from the European Union (EU), targeting products such as cheese, milk, and cream intended for human consumption.

This move comes a day after the EU revised its proposed punitive tariffs on Chinese electric vehicle (EV) imports, lowering them slightly from 37.6 per cent to 36.3 per cent. Beijing had previously urged the EU to abandon these tariffs.

The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China expressed concern over the escalating use of trade defence measures by both governments.

The Chamber emphasised the need for a fair and transparent investigation and urged affected member companies to fully cooperate.

This development highlights the growing trade tensions between China and the EU, with both sides using trade defence instruments in response to each other’s actions.

The Chamber will closely monitor the investigation’s progress and its potential impact on EU dairy exporters.
