Egypt’s president approves loan for Alex. Metro upgrade

SISI - EU investment conference — Egypt's President, Abdel Fattah El Sisi, during his inaugural speech at the Egypt-EU Investment Conference being held in Cairo on Saturday.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi approved on Thursday a 250-million-euro loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to upgrade the Abu Qir railway line and transform it into an electric metro line.

The Abu Qir metro project will ease traffic congestion in Alexandria by meeting the city’s increasing transport demand. It will offer a more reliable and efficient public transport mode, reducing the dependence on private vehicles.

The elevated construction of the metro line will ensure smooth traffic flow in the city.
