Egypt’s major telecom operators obtain 5G licences

Orange Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, and e& Egypt have on Monday secured 5G mobile service licences for a combined fee of $675 million. The acquisition of these licences comes on the heels of Telecom Egypt (TE) obtaining its own 5G licence in January under identical terms.

The new licences extend the existing mobile technology licences held by these operators by an additional 15 years without requiring the allocation of new frequencies. This move underscores Egypt’s commitment to modernising its digital infrastructure. 5G technology is poised to significantly enhance connectivity, accelerate digital transformation, and expand the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) applications across various sectors.
