Italy secures €8.7b in 6th EU recovery payment

Italy received, from the European Commission (EC), its sixth payment under the EU’s recovery plan, totalling €8.7 billion. The Commission disbursed €6.9 billion in loans and €1.8 billion in grants, following Italy’s submission of its sixth request on 28 June 2024, according to EC’s statement on Tuesday.

The payment covers 39 milestones and targets, including reforms in public administration, tax administration, social policy, as well as investments in digitalisation and sustainability.

A positive preliminary assessment from the EC, followed by approval from the Economic and Financial Committee, enabled the disbursement. Italy has now received €122.2 billion out of the €194.4 billion allocated to its recovery plan.
