Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) aimed at implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in Egypt’s healthcare sector, announced Ahmed El-Sobky, EHA Chairman.
This came during a meeting with BCG and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) representatives, that focused on enhancing AI applications to improve health planning, telemedicine, radiology management, and early disease detection, as reported by the Egyptian Cabinet.
El-Sobky highlighted EHA’s extensive database, which includes over 6 million electronic medical files and 500 million radiology images, providing a strong foundation for AI integration.
He further emphasised EHA’s digital infrastructure and commitment to expanding the Universal Health Insurance system by 2030, which will include 6,000 family medicine units and 1,000 hospitals.
The authority also plans to launch Egypt and Africa’s first AI applications centre in Ismailia this year.
The centre will operate in three phases, with a goal of becoming a hub for AI innovation within five years. Additionally, AI-based building management systems at the Suez Medical Complex have already cut energy costs by 25 per cent, showcasing the potential for AI in healthcare operations.
