URGENT: Egypt affirms firm rejection of Palestinian displacement

‘Egypt’s foreign policy has never been based on trading its national and Arab interests for any form of compensation’

Egypt has reiterated its firm and principled stance against any attempt to forcibly or voluntarily displace Palestinians from Gaza to any location outside the enclave, particularly to Egypt, warning that such a move would undermine the Palestinian cause and pose a serious threat to Egypt’s national security.

In a statement, the State Information Service (SIS), affiliated with the Egyptian presidency, dismissed claims in some media outlets suggesting that Egypt’s stance on the rejected displacement attempts is linked to economic aid. The statement emphasised that Egypt’s foreign policy has never been based on trading its national and Arab interests for any form of compensation.

Regarding the Palestinian cause, which remains a cornerstone of Egyptian and Arab national security, Egypt has maintained a steadfast position for over three-quarters of a century. The statement highlighted that Egypt has shouldered immense economic and financial burdens in defence of this cause, without compromising its national security or the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

SIS concluded by reaffirming that Egypt has not only rejected the displacement plan at the political and diplomatic levels but has also publicly and unequivocally opposed it since the onset of the Gaza conflict. The statement underscored that Egypt’s position aligns with its national security, the broader Arab interest, and the preservation of the Palestinian cause, maintaining a foreign policy based on principles rather than political bargaining.
