The Egyptian Space Agency’s (EGSA) CEO Sherif Sedky participated in a meeting of space agency leaders from BRICS countries in Brasília, Brazil, the 2025 chair of the BRICS group, a Cabinet statement said.
The BRICS group serves as a vital platform for political and diplomatic coordination among global South nations, addressing global governance, artificial intelligence, and climate change mitigation.
The meeting’s agenda included several working sessions, most notably discussions on the initiative to establish a constellation of satellites to support sustainable development, as part of the upcoming COP30 climate summit.
Other key topics included mechanisms for narrowing the technological gap between member space agencies and exploring ways to advance human resource development in the space sector. The programme also featured bilateral meetings between delegations and a visit to the Brazilian Space Operations Centre (COPE).
The BRICS group, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has expanded to include new members: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Iran.
