Egypt proposes US industrial zone in Suez Canal, vows to ease investor barriers

Egypt is eager to establish a US industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) and is committed to providing full support and removing obstacles to American investors, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said Wednesday.

The prime minister’s comments came after President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with US business leaders attending the US-Egypt Policy Leaders Forum 2025 in Cairo, including the American Chamber of Commerce and executives from Apache and Shell.

Prime Minister Madbouly stressed the government’s readiness to facilitate US companies’ operations and highlighted ongoing efforts to improve Egypt’s investment climate, such as faster approvals and timely payments to companies.

He also referenced talks with ExxonMobil to speed up drilling in key oil concession areas, signalling Egypt’s push to expand its energy sector.

The government aims to boost foreign direct investment and strengthen the private sector’s role in driving economic growth.
