Egypt, China discuss plans to upgrade CICC

Meeting highlights roadmap for modernisation of key landmark built with Chinese grant in 1989

Egypt’s Minister Plenipotentiary Essam Al-Naggar, chairman of the Egypt Expo & Convention Authority (EECA), met with a Chinese delegation led by Ambassador Liao Liqiang in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss plans to develop and rehabilitate the Cairo International Convention Centre (CICC), a historic venue gifted by China in 1989.

The initiative is receiving significant attention from Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib who aims to maximise the centre’s strategic potential and economic returns.

El-Naggar joined the delegation on a tour of the authority’s facilities, including the Chinese House, to evaluate development needs. They agreed to create a rehabilitation plan that meets global exhibition and conference standards.
