Egypt welcomed on Wednesday UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s announcement that Britain intends to recognise the State of Palestine, calling it a “historic stance” and urging other nations to follow suit.
The Foreign Ministry said the move aligned with growing international momentum toward establishing an independent and contiguous Palestinian state along the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Egypt reaffirmed its full backing for expanding global recognition of Palestine as part of a two-state solution, describing it as a pivotal step toward securing a “permanent, just and comprehensive peace” in the Middle East.
It also encouraged countries that have not yet recognised the Palestinian state to take similar action, citing recent declarations by France and Britain as important advances toward restoring peace, security and stability in the region.
