Egypt, Sri Lanka discuss closer investment, trade ties — GAFI

Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Chairman Hossam Heiba met Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Cairo Sisira Senavirathne on Thursday to discuss boosting trade and investment cooperation, the authority said in a statement.

Talks focused on activating a joint ministerial committee to advance economic relations, building on momentum from a meeting between the two countries’ foreign ministers in August.

Senavirathne said Sri Lanka is keen to expand cooperation, particularly in textiles and ready-made garments, where it has long-standing expertise. He added that Colombo’s elected government is working to attract investment and stabilise the economy after recent crises.

Heiba highlighted Egypt’s efforts to improve the investment climate, saying the country is undergoing a “qualitative transformation” in its business environment.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in textiles, fintech and tourism to drive bilateral investment growth, the statement said.
