Egypt launches digital platform to track petroleum sector environmental performance
Egypt’s General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has introduced a digital platform to monitor and evaluate environmental performance indicators across its affiliated companies, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said Thursday.
The initiative, spearheaded by EGPC’s Safety and Environment and Information Technology departments, is part of the ministry’s broader digital transformation and environmental protection strategy.
The platform is designed to standardise environmental data collection, improve operational efficiency, enhance decision-making, and boost transparency, according to Tamer Ayesh and Mohammed Abu El Majd, assistant executive chairmen for Safety and Environment and IT.
The tool also aims to help Egypt’s petroleum sector comply with national and international environmental standards while supporting the government’s sustainability objectives. Staff from affiliated companies have received training workshops to ensure accurate data entry and effective use of the platform.
“Digital monitoring strengthens oversight and ensures environmental sustainability is fully integrated into our operations,” the ministry said in a statement.
