Egypt’s Damietta Port received its largest-ever bulk cargo shipment on Monday, handling nearly 144,780 metric tons of slag ore aboard the Panamanian-flagged vessel YANG FAN, according to port authorities.
The shipment marks the largest single bulk cargo consignment processed by the port since its establishment, underscoring the Mediterranean facility’s capacity to accommodate ultra-large bulk carriers.
The vessel arrived from Singapore carrying Chinese-origin slag ore. Measuring 289 metres in length and 45 metres in width, with a draft of 16 metres, the YANG FAN ranks among the world’s largest bulk carriers.
Port officials said the successful berthing of the vessel reflects the readiness and efficiency of Damietta Port’s infrastructure and operational capabilities.
Cargo unloading operations are being conducted by SESCO Trans for Developed Logistics, in coordination with the port authority and other relevant entities, using the company’s latest handling equipment to ensure efficient discharge.
