URGENT: Egypt’s remittances jump 32% YoY in first 9 months of FY2025/26

Remittances from Egyptians working abroad surged 32 per cent year-on-year to a record $34.9 billion in the first nine months of fiscal year 2025/26, from $26.4 billion, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said on Monday.

The increase extends a sharp recovery in remittance inflows since Egypt adopted a more flexible exchange rate regime in March 2024 as part of a broader economic reform program aimed at attracting foreign currency into the formal banking system.

Remittances are one of Egypt’s main sources of foreign currency—alongside tourism revenues, Suez Canal receipts, and merchandise exports—and play a key role in supporting the country’s external finances.

The continued rise in inflows comes as Egypt seeks to strengthen foreign-exchange liquidity and rebuild external buffers.
