Egypt’s Cabinet approved on Thursday the launch of contracting procedures to build 300 strategic bakeries nationwide in the first phase of a government plan to strengthen bread supplies and enhance food security.
The project will be implemented by the Holding Company for Food Industries, affiliated with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, according to a Cabinet statement.
The government said the initiative follows directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to ensure the availability of subsidised bread, which remains one of Egypt’s main strategic commodities, and to improve access to bread across all governorates.
