Egypt’s Sokhna Port receives first commercial cargo at TCI terminal

Egypt’s Sokhna Port received the M.V. CENTURY EAGLE on Sunday, marking the first commercial cargo handling operation at Berth 27 of the Trans Cargo International (TCI) terminal.

The Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier arrived carrying factory supplies and Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), a key raw material used in industries including polyester and petrochemicals.

The vessel has a deadweight tonnage of 52,483 tons, is approximately 190 metres long and 32.26 metres wide, and was built in 2004.

The operation marks the official start of the TCI terminal’s operations, adding new cargo handling capacity at Sokhna Port and supporting general cargo services, trade, and industrial activity within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).

The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) said the shipment reflects Sokhna Port’s role in supporting supply chains and providing production inputs and raw materials for the industrial sector, while enhancing logistics efficiency amid the zone’s ongoing industrial expansion. It added that the operation is part of its efforts to develop its ports and increase their capacity to handle various types of cargo.
