Egypt to launch national initiative to boost exports from governorates

Egypt is preparing to launch a national initiative to boost exports from its governorates and expand the country’s exporter base through a programme to help more companies access international markets, Investment Minister Mohamed Farid said on Tuesday.

Farid outlined the initiative during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly to review key projects of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.

Farid said the programme would begin by assessing companies’ export readiness and raising awareness of international market requirements before providing support to help firms enter export markets.

It will also provide awareness campaigns and capacity-building programmes for manufacturing companies with export potential, enabling them to benefit from the ministry’s export support programmes.

Farid said governorates would be selected based on criteria including industrial activity, the number of factories and companies, proximity to ports and logistics networks, export significance, industrial diversity, and the presence of business associations supporting productive sectors.

He also presented the implementation timetable for the governorates to be included during the programme’s first phase.

The government has been seeking to increase exports as part of its strategy to boost foreign currency earnings and expand private-sector growth.
