Egypt adopts new trade remedies measures to protect exports

Egypt is introducing new measures to protect its exports, including a mechanism allowing trade remedies investigations to be launched without a formal complaint and a digital platform to support exporters, Investment Minister Mohamed Farid said on Tuesday.

Farid outlined the measures during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly to review efforts to strengthen Egypt’s trade defence framework.

He said the ministry had, for the first time, activated a mechanism allowing trade remedies investigations to be initiated on its own initiative, strengthening Egypt’s ability to respond more effectively to trade defence measures affecting its exports.

The ministry also launched a digital platform for the Trade Remedies Sector to provide exporters with technical and procedural support during investigations and encourage companies to report trade protection measures affecting their exports.

According to Farid, the platform reflects the growing global shift towards digital trade remedies procedures and will allow users to submit and manage cases electronically, monitor investigations in real time, communicate directly with investigating authorities and access a comprehensive database of trade remedies decisions and applicable duties.

The platform will be available to domestic producers, exporters, importers, government agencies, legal and economic consultancy firms, as well as international organisations, the minister said.
