Egypt’s PM reviews response to Damietta Port drone incident

Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Thursday that operations at Damietta Port had returned to normal after a fire aboard two vessels that preliminary investigations linked to a drone.

Chairing the Cabinet’s weekly meeting in New Alamein City, Madbouly reviewed the government’s response to the 29 July incident after preliminary investigations found that a drone had caused the fire.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident and will take all necessary measures to safeguard Egypt’s interests and national security, the prime minister noted.

Madbouly said vessel arrivals and departures, along with loading, unloading, and cargo-handling operations, were proceeding as scheduled, with Damietta Port operating at full capacity.

He added that electricity supplies at the port remained stable and shipping operations were continuing as planned, without disruption.

Relevant ministers also reviewed the emergency response, noting that government agencies coordinated efforts to contain the fire, restore normal operations, and ensure the uninterrupted provision of maritime, logistics, and port services.

The Cabinet said the coordinated response enabled the port to maintain the flow of trade and shipping activities while minimising the operational impact of the incident.
