Suez Canal’s August revenue rises 56.7% YoY to $567.1m – chief

Suez Canal’s revenue rose 56.7 per cent year-on-year to $567.1 million in August, as vessel traffic through the waterway increased, Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie said on Sunday.

Rabie said navigation indicators showed an improvement in August, with 1,358 vessels transiting the canal with total net tonnage of 68.3 million tons.

That compared with 1,070 vessels with total net tonnage of 45.2 million tons and revenue of $326 million in August 2025. The number of vessels rose 27 per cent, and net tonnage increased 51.1 per cent, Rabie said during a World Maritime Day event.

Rabie said global disruptions and changes in international trade had underscored the importance of the Suez Canal in securing global supply chains and reinforced its position as a major international shipping route.

He said the disruptions had also demonstrated, in Egypt’s view, that there was “no sustainable alternative” to the Suez Canal, citing its maritime safety standards and supporting services.

Rabie sought to reassure the maritime community, saying the canal was safe, traffic was operating normally, services were functioning efficiently, and its pilots remained at high levels of readiness and performance.
