Egypt, Worley discuss mining cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met on Monday with Worley Vice President Vivek Natarajan and Senior Operations Director Mahmoud Abu El-Ela to discuss cooperation in mining project development, implementation, and capacity building.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Egypt Mining Forum 2026, which is being held in Cairo.

Badawi stressed the importance of leveraging specialised international expertise to support the development and efficient implementation of mining projects, as Egypt seeks to increase the added value of its mineral resources and attract more investment to the sector.

The meeting also covered training and human-capacity development through practical and technical programmes aimed at qualifying Egyptian talent to work on mining projects while gaining exposure to international expertise, technologies and best practices.

Natarajan said Worley was committed to strengthening cooperation with Egypt’s Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ministry and companies operating in the country’s mining sector.

The two sides also discussed strengthening links between Worley and Egyptian mining companies to better understand their projects, needs and development stages and identify opportunities for cooperation in infrastructure, processing facilities and other components of mining projects.
