Egypt, Saudi Arabia discuss mining cooperation, expertise exchange

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met with Saudi Arabia’s Vice Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs Khalid bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer to discuss strengthening cooperation in the mining sector.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of Egypt Mining Forum 2026, with both sides highlighting opportunities for cooperation stemming from their shared geological characteristics within the Arabian-Nubian Shield.

Badawi stressed the importance of exchanging expertise and successful practices, particularly in training and developing the mining workforce. Al-Mudaifer praised Egypt’s efforts over the past two years to advance the sector, including developing its institutional framework and transforming the Mineral Resources & Mining Industries Authority into an economic authority.

Both sides agreed to expand cooperation through training programmes, meetings, expertise exchange, and sharing advanced practices in mining.
