Egypt’s IPN reaches 22m users in Q2 – CBE governor

Egypt’s Instant Payment Network (IPN) reached around 22 million registered customers by the end of the second quarter of 2026, CBE Governor Hassan Abdalla said. The network recorded around 1.47 billion transactions with a total value of around 4.33 trillion Egyptian pounds.

Abdalla made the remarks during the 50th annual meeting of the Council of Arab Central Bank Governors and Monetary Authorities in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, which discussed progress in implementing the Arab region’s Inclusive Instant Payment Programme.

He said the region is witnessing a rapid shift towards digital payments, reflected in the launch and development of instant payment systems including InstaPay in Egypt, Sarie in Saudi Arabia, and Aani in the UAE.

Abdalla said the next phase could focus on enhancing the inclusiveness of instant payment services, expanding their use cases, and supporting regional integration and cross-border payments.

During a high-level workshop, Abdalla stressed the importance of maintaining central bank independence and credibility and coordinating fiscal and monetary policies amid rising global uncertainty.

Abdalla also participated in the MENA Financial Health Leaders Summit and events marking the 50th anniversary of the Arab Monetary Fund.
