Less than two weeks before Egypt’s presidential elections, the Carter Center has expressed concern about what it described as “the restrictive political and legal context surrounding Egypt’s electoral process.”
A statement released late on Friday also cited “the lack of a genuinely competitive campaign environment and the deep political polarization” as concerns.
Egyptians will vote between former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and leftist politician Hamdeen Sabahi on May 26 and 27.
