The long-awaited unified telecoms licence will come into effect within this month, sources from the teleco regulator – the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) told Amwal Al Ghad.
The licence would allow telecoms firms to operate fixed-line and mobile networks, and therefore open the way for Egypt’s fixed-line monopoly Telecom Egypt to offer mobile services.
The sources have ruled out any delay in the launch of the unified licence until next September.
