Five policemen were injured in an attack on a police checkpoint in the Nile Delta governorate of Beheira early on Monday, the ministry of interior said in a statement.
The casualties were referred to the general hospital in Beheira and a criminal research team was formed to comb the area for the suspects, the statement said.
Attacks on military and police checkpoints have become frequent following the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
Hundreds of security personnel have been killed or injured in such attacks.
