Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s presidential campaign submitted his presidential candidacy papers to Egypt’s National Elections Authority headquarter in Downtown Cairo early Wednesday, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.
The official spokesperson of Sisi’s presidential campaign Mohamed Bahaa Abu Shouka presented to the NEA his presidential candidacy papers including public endorsements whether from citizens or from Members of parliaments.
According to the Presidential elections law and the Egyptian constitution, presidential Candidates must receive endorsements from a minimum of 20 MPs, or 25,000 citizens from at least 15 governorates, with at least 1,000 endorsements from each governorate.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi who declared his intentions to run for a second term on Friday is considered the first candidate officially to present his candidacy papers.
The Egyptian president is currently attending the celebration of the National Police Day at the Police academy in New Cairo.
