Eng. Tarek Wafiq, the new minister of Housing, holds a meeting with the ministry leaders in the first day after he took office.
An official source said the aim of this meeting is to discuss the main problems of his ministry, pointing out that the social housing project represents the most thorny issue that will face the minister.
Wafiq’s statements regarding resuming work on the social housing project have raised controversy among the applicants and whereupon they visited the headquarter of the ministry to inquire about what is going to happen to the project.
One of the applicants said he applied immediately after the project was announced following the 25th January Revolution, adding that no employee has answered his queries ever since. Everyone is waiting for the Ministry to announce the start of actual reservation at the project after defining the number of apartments in each of the cities included in the project, he added.
On the other hand, one of the employees responsible for answering the citizen’s questions said he has no idea about the future of that project, stressing that there are news stating that the current minister will report to the press on the number of apartments available in each city and the admission requirements, allowing those who have reservation receipts to have the priority to apply for the project.
It is worth mentioning that the Former President of Housing Dr. Mohamed El-Baradei, noted that the reservation will not be reopened until they complete the process of providing the apartments to the citizens who have already applied, received receipts, and met the requirements.
