Total cost of developing slums across Egypt amounts to 31 billion Egyptian pounds ($1.9 billion), the Cabinet’s media office said on Sunday.
As many as 165 unsafe areas are under development nationwide to provide 115,935 housing units, according to an info-graphic posted on the center’s official website.
Outlining the state’s ongoing development efforts in unplanned slum areas nationwide, the center noted that the estimated cost for developing these areas amounts to 318 billion pounds.
The center added that 37.5 percent of Egyptian cities are not planned, extending over a total area of 152,000 feddans.
The government plans to declare the country free of unplanned areas within 2030, the center said.
