Africa coronavirus cases exceed 40,000

The number of reported coronavirus cases on the continent of Africa has exceeded 40,000 on Saturday, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said.

The reported death toll is 1,689, while over 13,000 people have recovered from coronavirus as of Saturday, the agency added.

South Africa has the continent’s highest number of coronavirus infections of 6,000, the Africa CDC report read, followed by three North African countries, Egypt, Morocco, and Algeria.

Lesotho was the only African country with no reported cases as of Saturday.
