Amazon targets $5b in exports from India in ’24

Amazon Inc. plans to export approximately $5 billion worth of small-ticket items from India this year, marking a significant increase from the nearly $3 billion exported in 2023.

These small-ticket items, such as textiles, jewellery, household items, and Ayurveda products, are ideal for direct-to-customer exports and are less affected by import taxes compared to costlier products.

The company aims to supply markets like the United States and Britain, marking a shift away from China.

This move highlights India’s increasing importance in the global supply chain and aligns with a broader trend among multinational corporations to diversify their sourcing away from China.

Walmart Inc. has similar plans, aiming to increase its supplies from India to $10 billion per year by 2027.
