Apple to open first India store in Mumbai

Apple Inc. has announced on Wednesday the opening of its first retails store in India soon, in a landmark move for the company. The company is placing big bets on the country in terms of everything, from manufacturing to sales.

The company released a photo of the barricade the new India store in the Indian financial capital of Mumbai. However, the company did not give a date for opening.

The store is located in the city’s main business district in a posh shopping mall owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani.

The launch of the new store highlights Apple’s push to expand in the country that is set to overtake China as the world’s most populous country this year.

Apple is targeting the growing Indian middle class and is expanding in the country in various fields such as manufacturing operation. In addition to the store in Mumbai, Apple is building another in New Delhi as well.

The tech giant reshuffled the management of its international businesses this year, to focus on India, where online sales helped boost the company’s revenues in the quarter to December.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO said that the company is putting a lot of emphasis on the market, comparing the current state of its work in India to its early year is China.
