Arabian Business revealed the 500 most powerful Arabs in the world for 2012

Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Algeria, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan and Sudan, the most important countries supporters to scientists

The prestigious Arabian Business magazine, revealed, for the second year, its list of the 500 most powerful Arabs in the world for 2012, which the Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia ranked first in, and Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum of the UAE second place. In the third place, Reem Asaad from KSA came. In this context, we refer that the future of sustainable development in the Arab world, based on science and technology. This fact leads us to the importance of monitoring the sub-menu of the most influential Arab scientists on the list of the 500 most powerful Arabs in the world for 2012, and who were identified by the Arbitration Committee of Arabian Business magazine. The 500 most powerful Arabs in the world to this year, includes 28 scientists, 5.6% to the total list, including 5 women scientists (17.85% of the total scientists), and the proportion of 1% of the total list of the Top 500. Note that the community and the knowledge economy requires more attention to science and technology, and between these Arab scientists, there is 52% of whom live abroad, specifically in UAS, Britain, France and Brazil. Mention that the list in 2011, included only 19 scientists (3.8% to the total list of the 500 most powerful).

The most important Arab countries from which came from the most powerful Arab scientists for 2012: Egypt (7 scientists), Lebanon (7), Saudi Arabia (3), Emirates (3), Qatar and Algeria (2 scientists), Kuwait, Sudan, Jordan and Syria (one scientist). Among the most famous scientists in the list for the second year in a row: Dr. Abdalla A. Alnajjar, president of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation, Dr. Farouk El-Baz Dr. Magdy Yacoub, Dr. Charles Ashi, Dr. Samia Al-Amoudi, and Dr. Adib Jatina. The list included some news scientists, lik: Morsi Arab, Khawla Alchria, Hayatt Sindy, Sief Al-Hajjary, Elham Al- Qaradawi and Khaled Al- Subaie.

We mention among those Arab scientists the most famous and influential, Dr. Abdalla Alnajjar, president of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation – ASTF (United Arab Emirates, who formally ranked in the 500 most powerful Arabs in the world for 2012,  and the 11th  rank on the list of the most powerful Arab Scientists), Abdalla Alnajjar is the president of ASTF, which is based in Sharjah, the first organization to gather scientists widely inside and outside the Arab world, and aims to benefit from the expertise of local and expatriate in the service of the Arab nation and the world in general. It could be argued that the goals set by Abdalla Alnajjar, had begun to bear fruit, succeeded where a group of Arab researchers to achieve an amazing accomplishment, when it was announced this year about the possibility of a cure for cancer. But cancer treatment is not the main issue only working on the Arab Science and Technology Foundation; they are also working on water issues of vital importance in the region, and the technology of oil and gas, nanotechnology and agro-industries, information technology and communications in the list of its agenda. Abdalla Alnajjar got the Award of the International Society for the technology transfer IAMOT of America as the first Arab in this area in 2009. Came after him, Dr. Magdi Yacoub, the World Heart Surgeon (British Egyptian descent – 158 and 12th in the list of scientists), called by the British media in the title of king of hearts, and succeeded Egyptian medical team led by Dr. Magdi Yacoub, the development of the heart valves using stem cells.

Dr. Morsi Arab (Egyptian – ranked 7th in the general list and the first in the scientists list) is a famous specialist of diabetes and the pancreas in the Middle East, and currently serves as Chairman of the International Federation of Diabetes in East Mediterranean and Middle East. The Dr. Khawla Bent Sami Alchria (Saudi Arabia – the 9th in the general list and 2nd in the scientists), is a senior researchers cancer in the King Faisal Specialist Hospital). Dr. Hayatt Sindy (Saudi Arabia – ranked 19th, and the 3rd in the scientists list) is a specialist in biotechnology. Dr. Charles Al-Achi (American of Lebanese origin – 21st rank, the 4th place in the scientists list) served as Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory responsible for the development of techniques rushing into the space outside of the spacecraft in the U.S. space agency “NASA”. According to Dr. Sief Al Hajjri occupied (Qatar – 37, and 5th in the scientists list). Dr. Elham Al-Qaradawi (an Egyptian residing in Qatar – 65, and 6th rank for the scientists) is professor of nuclear physics at the University of Qatar and the daughter of renowned Dr Sheikh Youassef Al-Qaradawi. Dr. Leila Batarseh (an American of Lebanese descent – 100, 7th in the list of scientists), is director of the International Programme for the Middle East and North Africa of the Food and Drug Administration.

Dr. Khalid Al-Subaie (Qatar – 110 in the overall list, and 8th in the scientists list) is an astronomer who lives in America, led a group of scientists from Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in USA, University of Keele in the United Kingdom, to discover a new planet, named for Qatar. In addition to the list of alien planets, the ever-increasing and classified as “hot Jupiter”.  Dr. Farouk El-Baz (an American of Egyptian descent – 115, and 9th in the specialist list) Director of the Center for Remote Sensing at the University of Boston, the first Arabic is gaining an international reputation as one of the most important scientists at NASA. Sameh Darwazeh  (Jordanian of Palestinian origin – 145, the 10th in the list of scientists) Member of the Jordanian Senate, and chairman of Capital Bank of Jordan, and founded the company and developed the Al-Hekma for the Pharmaceutical Industries, which has become one of the leading companies in the world.

Dr. Mariam Matar (from the UAE, occupied the 164 place and 13th in the scientists list) currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of UAE Genetic Diseases, and Vice Chairman of Dubai Cares, the Department of Awqaf and Minors Affairs. Yazeed Sabeegh (French of Algerian origin – 174, the 14th in the scientists list), President of the Administrative Council of the French company’s advanced technology SSII. Dr. Fouad Al-Hebri (an American of Lebanese descent – 193, the 15th in the specialists list) lead the company Emmergent Bio Solutions from around the U.S., which stumbled to a leading company in the development of medical vaccines. Dr. Samia Al-Amoudi (Saudi Arabia – 214, the 16th in the list of scholars) is a consultant of Women and childbirth and famous activists in the fight against cancer.

In a related context, Dr. Ahmed Zewail (an American of Egyptian origin – 246, and 17th place in the list of scientists) holds a Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his research in the field of “femtosecond”. Followed by, Michel Obeid (Lebanon – 259, and 18th n the list of scientists) in the treatment of cancer. Ayman Sahali (United Arab Emirates – 275, and 19th in the scientists list), is Chief Executive Officer of Julphar pharmaceutical company UAE, fourth in the world in the production of insulin. Professor Adib Jatini (Brazilian of Lebanese descent – 283, and 20th in the list of scientists), a specialist in pediatric cardiac surgery.

In addition to these scientists, Dr. George Doumani (an American of Lebanese descent – 347, and 21st in the scientists list), Dr. Elias Zerhouni (an American of Algerian origin – 360, the 22nd scientists list) the current director of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, Dr. Mohamed Sayegh (Lebanon – 409, the 23rd to scientists), Dr. Mohamed Hashish (an American of Egyptian descent – 438, the 24th scientists), Dr. Ali Al-Shamlan the Director General of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advanced Science (Kuwait – 445, and 25th in the list of scientists), Dr. Mustafa Al-Sayed (American of Egyptian origin – 461, and 26th to scientists) physicist and uses technology of gold and nanotechnology to treat cancer and winning the highest honor in science from America, and Mohammed Ahmed Faris (Syria –  occupied 466 rank in the general list, and 27th place in the list of scientists) Syrian astronaut within the Russian program, and finally, Mohamed Osman Blolh from Sudan in the 489 rank in the 500 most powerful Arabs in the world for 2012, and the 28th on the list of scientists, and resident in the UAE, created a device that is not the lives of people with diabetes for the better.
