An Egyptian army conscript was injured in North Sinai on Friday when unknown assailants shot at a security checkpoint.
Omar Gamal, 19, was transferred to hospital after the attack in Al-Arish city.
Egypt’s military has been battling a jihadist insurgency in Sinai for almost a decade that has intensified over the past year and a half. The army is currently creating a buffer zone on the Rafah – Gaza border.
Attacks have killed hundreds of soldiers and police in Sinai, Cairo and the Nile Delta.
The army has announced the killing and arrest of hundreds of “terrorists” over the past months.
