Badrasheen Rail Crash Activist Has Trial Postponed

Alexandria Criminal Court has adjourned the trial of activist Hassan Mostafa until 3 November while it hears from witnesses.

Mostafa is accused of helping protesters escape from police custody after they were arrested for blocking the tracks at Alexandria Railway Station following the Badrasheen rail crash, which killed 19 and injured hundreds in January 2013

Mostafa was released from jail on 4 August pending trial.

In a separate case, the activist was sentenced to one year in prison for physically attacking and verbally abusing prosecutor Ahmed Darwish while attempting to file a complaint regarding the absence of lawyers for those arrested at the protest.

On 7 July, Darwish withdrew his complaint against Mostafa and the sentence was overturned.
