Bluesky new competitor app for Twitter

Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey, funded and spun off Bluesky, a new social media app of the moment looks so much like Twitter, as it gains popularity from user’s who flock to the platform.

Users have a profile that they can use to post their thoughts to a public or private feed, and are able to view and interact with posts from a whole world of other users. There are currently no hashtags – a feature on Twitter – and no direct messages.

Bluesky was formed independently of Twitter while Dorsey was serving as CEO but it was funded by the company until it became an independent organisation in February 2022.

The app is currently available for both Android and iOS, Bluesky only accepts new users via a waitlist or an invite code gifted by a current member.

Bloomberg reported that the iPhone app has already been downloaded 245,000 times, with over a million users on the service’s waitlist.
