Cambodia raises $26.3m for border project

Cambodia raised $26.3 million for border infrastructure development through a fundraising campaign led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, according to an official announcement on Sunday.

The campaign aims to enhance infrastructure along the country’s borders, with a focus on building a border ring road. Nearly 700,000 people have donated to the fund, which will conclude by the end of the month.

“The proceeds will be used to construct infrastructure along the borders, focusing on the development of a border ring road,” the announcement added. The fundraising campaign will be closed on Oct. 31, 2024, the announcement said.

Hun Manet announced that Cambodia has built a 1,300 km border ring road since 1994, completing 50 per cent of the total. The country aims to finish the remaining section in 10 years at a cost of over $200 million.
