Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) is set to launch the sixth Economic Census before the end of the fiscal year 2024-2025 (starts on July 1st) and is also preparing for the 2027 Population, Housing, and Establishments Census.
Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat announced this during a meeting with CAPMAS head Major General Khairat Barakat and senior officials. The minister reviewed the agency’s ongoing statistical work, digital transformation efforts, and infrastructure development to enhance data accuracy for policymaking.
Barakat highlighted that, for the first time, the upcoming Economic Census will include data on e-commerce, outsourcing, and the green economy, along with updated insights on industrial zones. The results, currently under review, will provide a comprehensive breakdown of Egypt’s economic activities and their contribution to GDP.
The meeting also covered CAPMAS’s periodic surveys, including the Labour Force Survey, which tracks employment trends nationwide, and the Income, Expenditure, and Consumption Survey, used to assess household living standards and poverty levels.
Other key studies discussed included the Consumer Price Index (CPI) survey, a critical inflation indicator, and surveys conducted for national programmes.
