Ride-hailing firm Careem launched on Monday Go Hero service in support for healthcare workers in Egypt against their fight against coronavirus by offering them a 50 percent discount on all rides in Cairo and Alexandria.
The healthcare workers will use the Go Hero service on the app and type the Wecare promo code.
The company said in a statement that the new service is being made available in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Castrol Group, a BP company specialising in motor oils.
The service will last for one month in order to assist doctors and nurses with their commutes and to show gratitude for their efforts at this critical stage, the statement added.
Go Hero will be applied using a database of doctors and nursing staff supported by the Health and Population Ministry, or by filling in data through a link that Careem has put on its Facebook and Instagram pages.
Wael Abul-Ela, chief executive of Careem Egypt, emphasised the company’s keenness to support healthcare professionals who are risking their lives to overcome the virus crisis, which threatens the lives of many Egyptians.
The partnership with Careem and the Ministry of Health will contribute effectively to supporting Egyptian society in addressing the current circumstances, said Wael Abdel Shaheed, general manager of Castrol Egypt.
