Egypt’s Central Bank Governor Hassan Abdullah met on Monday with European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Gelsomina Vigliotti to discuss strengthening cooperation and future partnerships, particularly in sustainable finance.
During the meeting, Abdullah reviewed developments in Egypt’s economy and the financial soundness indicators of banks operating in the country, highlighting positive progress despite unprecedented global and regional challenges.
Vigliotti praised the resilience of Egypt’s banking sector, citing higher capital adequacy and liquidity ratios and a low ratio of non-performing loans. She also commended cooperation between the EIB and Egypt and the Central Bank of Egypt’s efforts to support the national economy.
Both sides discussed strengthening cooperation in sustainability and reviewed the EIB’s Greening Financial Systems (GFS) Programme, which supports the CBE’s sustainable finance efforts.
The CBE joined the programme in July 2025, and both sides are preparing to sign a cooperation agreement that includes provisions for technical capacity building.
